Step 1: Click here to got to www.ACT.org

Step 2: In the top-left corner, you will see the “Information For” dropdown. Click on that, and select “Students + Parents.”

Step 3: If you scroll down to the section entitled “The ACT Test,” you will see a blue button in the bottom-right corner that says “Register for the ACT.” Click that.

Step 4: Review the checklist and get ready to register by clicking the blue “Register Now” button.

Step 5: You will be prompted to sign in. If you do not already have an account, you will have to create one.

Step 6: If you’re creating a new account, you will be asked whether you’ve registered for the ACT before and taken the ACT before.

Step 7: You have the option of entering your parents’ information so that they can receive reminders as well.

Step 8: You will be prompted to enter personal information. Answer all questions with an asterisk (*). Click Continue.

Step 9: Next, you will be prompted to enter your high school information. Once you have done so, click “Continue.”

Step 10: You’re now ready to register! Click the “Register Now” button and fill out the next few sections about Accommodations/Supports, Your High School Summary, College Plans, College Interests, Special Interests, Extracurricular activities, Paying for College, Background information, Out of class accomplishments, ACT interest inventory. For each of these sections, fill out as much as you would like, and click Continue.

Step 11: Next, you will be asked where you want to take the test. Answer appropriately and click “Continue.”

Step 12: Check who is registering you for the test or whether you are registering yourself. Then click “Continue.”

Step 13: Read the “Terms & Conditions” and check the box indicating that you read them. Then click “Continue.”

Step 14: Select your preferred test date and test options. Once you have scrolled down and completed all of that, click “Continue.”

Step 15: Next, you will be given information about photo upload requirements. Keep these in mind, as you will need to upload a photo after you complete registration. Once you have read these guidelines, click “Continue.”

Step 16: Confirm your high school information and select your grade. Then click Continue to answer the remaining questions about your high school courses.

Step 17: Next, indicate the colleges you would like your scores sent to in priority order. After that, click “Continue.”

Step 18: Indicate your college major interests and plans for the future in the next two steps.

Step 19: Indicate your plans for the future. Then click “Continue.”

Step 20: Select your preferred test center according to your geographic region.

Step 21: Select your preferred test center from the choices given to you.

Step 22: Review all of your information and make sure it is accurate. If anything is incorrect, update it accordingly. Once you have confirmed that everything is correct, click “Continue.”

Step 23: Finally, review your order and enter your credit card information. Once you have done that, click “Submit.” Be sure to only click “Submit” once, even if it takes a while. Otherwise you might get charged more than once.

Planning on taking the ACT? Awesome! However, unlike the tests you take at school, you can’t just show up at the test center. You need to register first. Without registering, you won’t be able to take the test.

You might be thinking, “Great! Another thing I have to add to my to-do list.” Studying for the ACT is already stressful, and having to take care of the necessary logistics is a pain. But in this step-by-step guide, we’ll walk you through the process of how to register online—the easiest way to register. Follow these steps, and you should be able to register with no problem. Once that’s out of the way, you can go back to studying. Registration takes about 40 minutes. You’ll want to have on hand your or your parents’ credit card information, your high school course details, and a headshot photo.

Before getting into the registration steps, keep in mind that you’ll want to register as early as possible in order to get your preferred testing location. They also have strict registration deadlines. For US students you can register late with a fee. But we recommend not procrastinating for this! Sometimes seats do become sold out.
